Tighten Your Abs
Tighten Your Abs and Burn the Flab
Trying to tighten your abs is probably the hardest thing that you — as a slightly paunchy male like me — will have to do. The truth is that your abs muscles are going to be the hardest to tone, as the flab that is hiding the muscle is much more resistant to being burned than the fat on the rest of your frame. However, if you want to get in shape (yes, round is a shape, but not the right one), it’s time to tighten your abs and burn the flab…
Tighten Your Abs: High Intensity Exercise
High intensity interval training — or HIIT — is the best fat burning exercise that there is, hands down. When you do exercise that requires a whole lot of energy, your body has to quickly find that energy from somewhere. That fat covering your abs is the best source of that energy, so your body burns it to keep up with the exercises. The higher-intensity the exercise, the better. Sure, doing 1000 crunches may seem like a good idea, but the endurance exercises (high reps, low weight) will only tone up the muscles. Wait until you’ve burned off the weight before doing abs toning exercises, and focus on doing lots of high intensity exercise. You’ll only be able to manage 15 to 30 minutes of this exercise every day, but it will be worth it.
Tighten Your Abs: Cardio
Don’t neglect your cardio when trying to burn belly fat, but don’t spend too much time focusing on it either. The purpose of doing cardio workouts is to help get the fat burning, but extended periods of running or cycling will just burn up muscle fiber in addition to fat. Do about 20 or 25 minutes of cardio to help get the fat burning, and follow your run or cycle with a good HIIT workout. You’ll find that the cardio will start the weight loss, and the high intensity exercise that you follow it up with will burn off the fat very effectively.
Tighten Your Abs: Core Workouts
One of the most important forms of exercise to do to get those flat, sleek abs that you want is core workouts. This means that you’ll need to spend time working on building your abs muscles, just like you need to spend time working on all of the other muscles in your body. Take at least two days a week to spend 20 to 30 minutes on your core, doing exercises that will focus specifically on your back, side, and abs muscles. It will help to strengthen your entire core, and you’ll find that it will promote overall fat burning around your midsection. You probably have a bit more than just belly fat, but it’s a bit more like a tire or an inner tube around your belly and love handles. With a bit of cardio and some solid time focusing on your core, you’ll find that your body will get rid of that fat in no time flat!
Tighten Your Abs: Lifestyle Hacks for Flat Abs
Living right and following a few simple rules will help to burn off that belly flab in no time:
No Sugar – That’s right, sugar is your #1 archenemy in the fight against belly flab. While saturated fat will be bad, it’s sugar that goes to your gut. Sugar isn’t just empty calories that are turned into fat instantly by your body, but it’s actually an addictive substance that will make you crave more sugar. While fruits and healthy foods have sugar, it’s the processed sugar that you want to avoid. Cut it out of your life completely for 3 to 6 months, and you’ll find that following the above workout advice and ditching sugar will turn that flab into abs in record time! Your fat will almost disappear, and it’s all thanks to the fact that you’ve cut out sugar.
Vitamin C – You’re going to be tearing up your muscles, and your body will be under a lot of stress. Stress releases cortisol, and cortisol can be harmful for your body if there is too much of it. Taking Vitamin C will help to balance out your cortisol levels and reduce your stress, as well as give your immune system a boost. Seeing as sickness will prevent you from doing your workouts, staying healthy by getting lots of Vitamin C can be the way to go!
Fat – Surprisingly, eating fat is a good thing, though you need to get the right fats. Saturated fats should be limited, so cut back on the meat, chicken, and cheese that you eat. However, eat lots of fish, nuts, avocadoes, and other foods that contain natural unsaturated fats. You’ll find that adding more of this healthy fat to your diet will get your body used to burning it, and it will make it easier for your metabolism to process the fat you have stored on your frame. Limit the amount of fat that you eat, but always choose higher-fat foods over higher-carb foods.
Sleep and De-Stress — Now that you’re going to be doing lots of exercise, it’s going to be very important that you keep your body as healthy as possible. Getting a good night’s sleep is very important, as it will help to repair your muscles and prevent hunger pangs. That’s right, your body interprets lack of sleep as hunger, so sleep well to ensure that you don’t feel hungry when you’re really just sleepy. Also, keep your stress under control, as too much stress will cause cortisol to be produced. Cortisol causes your body to be less sensitive to insulin, and too much insulin will result in belly flab.
Burning the flab is a challenge that all of us men have to face, and the truth is that getting in shape is one of the toughest things that we’ll have to face. However, if you follow the advice above, you’ll find that you can tighten your abs in no time!
